Parts of the decomposing body of Stella Mushangidze Chidzenga, a teacher from Chitungwiza, were recently discovered in Gutu, Masvingo Province, following her disappearance during the second term school holiday.

According to reports from H-Metro, Chidzenga had been missing since August, prompting the circulation of “Missing Person” flyers across various WhatsApp groups.

A man, claiming to be the deceased’s uncle, has reported her death, which is suspected to be linked to ritual murder.

Chidzenga, a Grade 2 teacher at Shingayi Government Primary School in St Mary’s, lived in Ushewokunze with her two children: a daughter in her early 20s and a son in Grade 6.

It is alleged that she left home seeking medical treatment in Harare and instructed one of her children to wait for her at a bus stop, but she never returned.

The body was found by a young herdboy in Gutu, who alerted his father. This led to neighbors and the local headman being informed, and the body was initially covered with tree branches while a police report was filed in Gutu.

However, when police officers arrived, they could not locate the body at the initial site.

After resuming their search the following day, they discovered the remains a few meters away from where they had previously been reported.

Alongside the body, personal belongings such as a dress, slip-ons, a handbag, a wallet, and a mobile phone were found.

The phone contained a contact labeled “Daddy,” which was used to reach out to Chidzenga’s father in Bluffhill.

Family members have since returned to Harare to make funeral arrangements, while authorities are yet to decide where the postmortem will be conducted.

Chidzenga was a graduate of Morgan Zintec College in Harare and was known as a devoted member of the Anglican Church, as reflected in her social media messages.
