A man, who was part of a gang which snatched a satchel containing US$52 000 from a Harare man last week, was arrested and appeared in court yesterday.
Edmond Nzombe appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi for the theft which happened close at Bhola Hardware.
Nzombe’s accomplices – Tapiwanashe Murefu and Tawanda Mutuma – were granted $100 000 each when they appeared before Harare Magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure, earlier this month.
The State submitted that Nzombe should be treated in the same way as his accomplices.
He was also granted $100 000 bail.
Nzombe, Murefu and Mutuma will be back in court on May 8 pending finalisation of investigations.
It is the State’s that on March 5, at around 4pm, the accused hatched a plan to steal from the complainant.
It is alleged that they teamed up with Jeffrey Chipwanyira, and 16 others who are on the run.
The court heard that the gang, which was using three different getaway cars, pounced on the complainant who was coming from Bhola Hardware, in Harare Street.
They confronted the complainant and snatched his satchel, which had US$52 000, and drove off.
The complainant filed a report at ZRP Kopje.
Investigations led to the arrest of Murefu and Mutuma.
The State said US$1 000 was recovered from Murefu and US$500 from Mutuma.
The State said the gang was captured on CCTV committing the offence.
Mutuma and Murefu then implicated Nzombe .
Zebedia Bofu appeared for the State.
