Following a gunfight with police, three suspected armed robbers who were terrorising and pursuing persons holding large sums of money in Bulawayo and Matabeleland South region have been slain.
The accused, Ntokozo Ncube, Newman Ncube, and Pride Moyo (29), were named by the police. They were shot and killed during an incident that happened on Tuesday about midday in Tuli River, Gwanda.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, a spokesman for the national police, verified the occurrence.
Detectives from CID murder Bulawayo detained four armed robbery suspects in a green and white Toyota Hiace near Tuli River on their way to Freda Mine after receiving a tip. A shootout broke out when the suspects saw the investigators and began firing at the police officers. Pride Moyo, Newman Ncube, and Ntokozo Ncube were therefore shot; they were brought to Gwanda District Hospital, where they passed away as soon as they were admitted, he claimed.
From the suspects’ car, the investigators were able to seize a 38 SPL revolver with two live bullets, three empty cartridges, and two pellet guns.
The suspects, according to Asst Comm Nyathi, are connected to two incidents of robbery and one case of attempted murder.
In one of the robberies that took place at Insindi Ranch House on June 30, 2023, the suspects attacked two victims with handguns, a hunting knife, a paper spray, and a FN 9mm pistol with a 13-round magazine. They then stole US$7,800 in cash, a cadix.38 revolver, and $200 worth of jewellery. In a different robbery instance that happened in Plumtree on January 1, 2024, the suspects assaulted a victim with weapons before taking R25,000, US$74,000, and a car.
The defendants are also connected to an August 1, 2023, attempted murder case that happened at Cowdray Park and resulted in injuries to three police officers after a shootout.
Police are still looking for information that might help them apprehend Simelweyinkosi Dube, who was able to flee the area during the gunfight.
“The National Complaints Desk number (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp on 0712 800 197 or report at any nearest Police Station is how the Zimbabwe Republic Police asks the public to report movements of criminal syndicates to the Police,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said.
