Yesterday afternoon, tragedy struck as three young pupils, aged between seven and 13, lost their lives in a devastating accident along the Christmas Pass-Shamu Road in Mutare. The children were struck by a Toyota Fortuner that veered off the road, claiming their lives as they were crossing at the 2km mark.
The victims were identified as Blessing Chisaria (nine), Silvian Maponde (13), and Strive Maponde (seven), all hailing from Grange, Toronto (Chirochangu Plot). A fourth pupil sustained injuries in the incident and was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to the hospital’s mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured pupil received medical attention at the same facility.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, emphasized the importance of vigilance and adherence to speed limits among motorists. He urged drivers to prioritize safety by strictly adhering to road regulations to prevent such tragic accidents from occurring in the future.

Zanu PF youth chairman Darlington Mandebvu who allegedly became violent after the slight side-swipe was seriously injured after an oncoming vehicle came and hit him while he allegedly stood in the middle of the road.
