A Man From Domboshava Faces Murder Charge After Setting Wife on Fire Ashley Kabaya

In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded in Shamva Township, Mashonaland Central, on Friday, March 15, a four-month-old infant tragically lost their life in a devastating house fire at a neighbor’s thatched hut.

According to police reports, the distressing event occurred when Blessing Nyanhunzvi, aged 32, entrusted her infant child to the care of Joshua Mupeusa, while she went about her errands. Around 5:00 PM, Nyanhunzvi left her sleeping baby inside her cooking hut and proceeded to fetch water from a source approximately 800 meters away.

Upon her return, Nyanhunzvi was met with a scene of horror as Tsitsi Tezeni, a neighbor, urgently called for assistance, alerting her to the engulfing flames in the hut where the infant lay. Despite immediate efforts by Nyanhunzvi and neighboring residents to douse the flames, their attempts proved futile.

Mashonaland Central’s deputy police spokesperson, Tonny Nyandoro, emphasized that while no foul play was suspected in the tragic incident, it serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers posed by leaving infants unattended, especially in environments where hazards such as open flames exist.

The lifeless body of the infant was transported to Shamva Hospital, where it awaits a postmortem examination. Nyandoro urged the public to exercise utmost caution and vigilance, particularly when caring for infants, emphasizing the critical importance of providing constant supervision and ensuring a safe environment free from potential hazards.
