Ashley Ndou, 23, and Prospect Ziyengwa, 27, both of Beitbridge, are accused of trying to assassinate Mr. Takavingei Mahachi, a Ward 3 councillor, on Independence Day by stabbing him at his house in the Tshidixwa district.

They allegedly attacked Mr. Takavingei Mahachi, leaving significant slashes on his left arm and chest, and then fled the scene with the help of a third man who is still at large.

Ndou and Ziyengwa did not have to enter a plea when they appeared in local regional court before resident judge Mr. Takudzwa Gwazemba of Beitbridge. They were charged with attempted murder. Their custody was remanded until May 6.
