Wife Alleges Husband’s Affairs With Maids Ruined Their Marriage

A woman claims her marriage ended due to her ex-husband’s repeated involvement with their household maids.

Martha Kanyera stated that whenever she confronted her former spouse, Daniel Kanyera, about his actions, he would respond with violence.

She sought legal protection from the Harare Civil Court, which was granted by Magistrate Meenal Naratom.

During the court proceedings, Martha expressed her frustration, saying, “My ex-husband has no shame. He would engage in affairs with our maids within our own home, which ultimately led to our divorce.

“Because of his behavior, people ridicule me, and it has become difficult to find anyone willing to work for me.”

She further recounted an incident from the previous year, where her daughter got into an altercation with their maid after Daniel had gifted the maid presents and mobile airtime while neglecting to pay for their daughter’s school fees.

Martha also mentioned that she recently hired a new maid, but Daniel approached her home requesting the maid’s phone number, which led to the maid resigning.

“All I want is for him to stay away from my maids. If he wants updates about the children, he should speak to me directly, not through them.

“I am exhausted from being humiliated and just want my privacy and peace.”

In response, Daniel refuted the accusations but admitted to requesting the maid’s contact information.

“I only asked for her number so I could check on my children and have her accompany them when they visited me.

“My youngest child is my favorite, and I love him dearly. I can’t bear to be away from him.

“I want to see him every day. If this court order is approved, it will stop me from visiting my children, and they are the reason I work hard.”
