Woman Gives New Boyfriend Maintenance Money Meant For Kids

A Harare teacher told the court that her former wife wants to give her boyfriend the maintenance money to use for her lobola.

Mabid Marumbi offered $10 000 maintenance for the upkeep of two minor children after his former wife Praise Mashingaire accused him of failing to look after his children.

Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini presided over the matter and granted the application in Praise’s favour.

“My offer is $10 000 and I work as a teacher and do not earn much.

“I have a request that she may be ordered to cooperate with me because the last time I asked for the children’s birth certificate she refused telling to have my own children. “I needed the birth certificates so that the government can pay the children’s fees. She also told me that she wants to give the money I am paying for maintenance to her boyfriend so that he can pay her bride price,” he said.

Praise turned down the offer.

“Food prices have increased and $10 000 is too little considering that he is a teacher and gets US allowances.”

However, magistrate Dhlamini ordered Mabid to pay $25 000 plus US$40 as maintenance.
