Women Travel Far and Wide for Doek and Slay 2024 Extravaganza

Doek and Slay 2024 exceeded expectations, drawing an unprecedented crowd of over 23,000 women from all corners of Zimbabwe and beyond borders.

Widely regarded as the ladies’ party of the year, the event was a vibrant celebration of sisterhood, fun, and empowerment, offering women a chance to connect, network, and create lasting memories.

Exclusively for women, the event welcomed only male performers and a few service providers, who respectfully kept a low profile.

A group from Masvingo proudly showcased their presence with a banner reading, “We came from Masvingo,” for all to see that their town was represented.

Doors opened at 8 a.m., and attendees arrived in stunning purple outfits, the designated color of the day. Smooth entry queues, secure parking, and a calm atmosphere ensured a successful and enjoyable experience. Unlike many large-scale gatherings, the event was peaceful, with no reports of theft or brawls, leaving security teams with minimal duties.

The lead-up to the event saw an overwhelming demand for purple attire, leading to sellouts at fashion retailers, thrift stores, and the Mupedzanhamo market. “I searched all over Harare for purple clothes but couldn’t find any,” said Munamato Vuta. “I wore white with purple lipstick while my sister added a touch of purple by spraying her hair.”

The entertainment lineup was nothing short of spectacular. Hosts Butterphly and Lexxy kept the energy alive, while DJs had everyone dancing all day.

The performances began with Tammy Moyo, whose polished choreography wowed the crowd. Enzo Ishall followed with an electrifying set that had everyone singing along. The audience demanded that he return for one more song after he had left the stage. They could not get enough of him.

Zimdancehall star Master H received a rapturous welcome, thrilling the audience with his dynamic performance. Jah Prayzah and his band brought the night to an unforgettable close with a two-hour set, performing hit after hit and leaving fans in awe.

More than just a party, Doek and Slay was a celebration of women’s joy and independence. Beverage companies like Delta and their Afdis brand delighted the crowd with free Chibuku cocktails, gifts and wine, while food vendors worked tirelessly to meet the demand. Even chair-hiring companies ran out of stock as women ensured their comfort throughout the day.

Mrs. Leah Mutasa summed up the event’s impact: “My husband gave me a ‘passport and visa’ to attend this show, and I’m thrilled to have seen Jah Prayzah live. This is my Christmas celebration away from the kitchen. Kudos to the organizers for thinking of married women who rarely attend live shows.”

With exceptional organization, a vibrant atmosphere, and top-notch entertainment, Doek and Slay 2024 joins the ranks of the Jacaranda Music Festival and Carpe Diem DJ show as one of the year’s best events. This iconic gathering of sisterhood and style has set a new standard, leaving a lasting impression on Zimbabwean women away from their daily busy lives.
