A Zimbabwean national residing in the UK has reportedly lost assets valued at US$42,000. A 54-year-old man has been arrested and appeared before a Harare magistrate in connection with the case.
The court was informed that between January 2021 and July this year, Eugenia Nyamuturira had entrusted Morgan Muwodzeri with the safekeeping of a Nissan Pathfinder owned by Shadreck Munyuki, who is based in the UK.
However, in June of this year, Muwodzeri allegedly, without Nyamuturira’s permission, used the vehicle as collateral for a loan with Lekka Micro-Finance.
When Nyamuturira requested the vehicle later that month, Muwodzeri failed to provide it, leading to a police report and his subsequent arrest.
In a separate incident from December last year, Munyuki had sent Muwodzeri US$12,300 from the UK for safekeeping, with plans to use the money for a plot purchase. When Munyuki later instructed Muwodzeri to release the funds, he also failed to do so.
