Police have denied social media claims that the suspects in the robbery of a Safeguard Cash-in-Transit team at an Ecobank branch in Bulawayo have been arrested.
Social media reports suggested the suspects were shot on Plumtree Road after the robbery, but the police confirmed that they have not yet been captured and will provide updates as the investigation continues.
Commissioner Paul Nyathi of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) stated that six suspects were involved in the heist, where about US$4 million was stolen, and hinted at the possibility of an inside job.

However, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele reported that there are actually seven suspects, all adult males. Six wore balaclava masks, while one did not; one suspect was described as approximately 1.65 meters tall and light-skinned.
The cash was being transported from the Ecobank branch on the ground floor of the NRZ Building, Bulawayo’s tallest building. Witnesses said the robbers waited for the Safeguard security guards to load money into their truck before they approached with guns drawn, disarming the guards and forcing them into the back of their own truck while stealing cash boxes.
