Two security guards have been killed. The first was killed on Monday in Lalapanzi by a group of six thieves who then stole a 303 Lee Enfield rifle, 2.5 tonnes of gold ore, and mining equipment.
The second guard was killed on Tuesday for an unidentified cause at an Econet booster station in Masvingo city.
According to Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, officers have since started a manhunt for the accused.
“Lalapanzi police are looking into the murder and robbery of 38-year-old Robert Baradzi on January 29, 2024, in the Mandindindi district.
“After using an unidentified type of firearm to shoot the victim, a security guard at a mine, six unidentified male suspects stole a 303 rifle, 2.5 tonnes of gold ore, a jackhammer, a 1.5 horsepower submissive pump, a Tel Aviv P3 mobile and a Let P38 mobile, all worth a combined $2,640,” the statement read.
Police in Masvingo are looking into the circumstances surrounding Tuesday’s murder of 34-year-old Hanisi Hamandishe.
On January 29, an unidentified suspect attacked the victim, a security guard working at an Econet Wireless booster in Mucheke, Masvingo, randomly with an unidentified sharp item.
“Hamandishe was brought to Masvingo Provincial Hospital, where he passed away shortly after being admitted, after he was later discovered comatose in a bloody puddle.
Asst Comm Nyathi stated, “Anyone with information that might assist police with investigations should contact any nearest police station.”
In the meantime, authorities have verified the arrest of Stanley Mahachi, 22, who was wanted in relation to a murder case that happened on January 25, 2024, at a residence in Zvishavane.
The suspect hit his wife, Dadirai Mudarikwa, 39, on the head with a spade after they got into a heated argument over an unspecified disagreement.
