2024 Tobacco Marketing Season Dates Established

The Governmen In Bid to Increase Tobacco Processing and Value Addition From 2 Percent To 3 Percent

The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) has unveiled the schedule for the upcoming 2024 tobacco marketing season, with auctions set to kick off on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, followed by contract tobacco sales the next day.

Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Matsvaire, urged all stakeholders to prepare for the season ahead. He also announced that a brief opening ceremony would be held on the first day of auctions at a location yet to be determined.

“A brief ceremony to mark the start of the 2024 tobacco marketing season will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. The venue, time, and program for the ceremony will be communicated in due course,” Matsvaire stated.

In a bid to address challenges faced by farmers during the transportation of their crops to the market, TIMB introduced a transporters framework. This initiative aims to minimize losses incurred by farmers during transportation and streamline the logistics involved in bringing tobacco to market centers.

The move comes as part of TIMB’s ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and support  farmers throughout the marketing process.
