Detective Sergeant Sibusiso Nonjezi, stationed in Nyanga, was driving a state vehicle when the incident occurred. He was shot and robbed of his service pistol. The hijacked white VW Polo was later recovered by authorities.
The incident was confirmed by a police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk “Provincial Detectives are investigating a case of attempted murder and hijacking following an incident on Monday at about midnight in Ntlanzi Street, Kuyasa, Harare, where the 35-year-old sergeant was robbed of his duty pistol and hijacked of the VW Polo state vehicle that he was driving at the time.”
The police officer was shot in the right shoulder and face by the suspect. Sibusiso Nonjezi was treated in a local facility for medical needs.

“The incident was reported to Harare SAPS at about 03:00,” Van Wyk continued. At 60 Block Kuyasa, the car was found and turned in for inspection. A portion of the police inquiry focuses on the reason for this shooting occurrence. Investigation ongoing; no arrests have been made yet.”
The secretary of the Nyanga Community Police Forum, Dumisani Qwebe, commended Nonjezi for his professionalism and dedication, pointing out that he has been involved in the resolution of several high-profile cases. Qwebe, who wished Nonjezi a swift recovery, expressed horror at the shooting and denounced the violence against law enforcement.
