Harare, Zimbabwe – Building on a rich history of community support, Agora Club Zimbabwe (ACZ), a network of women dedicated to “service and tolerance,” is set to celebrate a significant two-year milestone in its partnership with the Rafiki Girls’ Centre.
Inspired by the ancient tradition of charitable duty, echoing Zimbabwe’s own historical “Zunde raMambo” system of community support, Agora Club International (ACI) continues this legacy through targeted initiatives.
Following the tradition of each sitting president choosing a charitable organisation, Chido Musasiwa Gutu selected the Rafiki Girls’ Centre in 2023. This Harare-based vocational training facility, located in Greencroft where Musasiwa-Gutu has resided for over two decades, provides crucial short courses to vulnerable young women whose education has been interrupted by hardship.
Over the past two years, Agora Club Zimbabwe has been instrumental in supporting the Rafiki Girls’ Centre, currently headed by Hildah Mahachi. Their contributions have included providing essential resources such as bus fares for trainees, furniture for the facility, and a vital solar installation to ensure reliable power for the vocational training.
Demonstrating the collaborative spirit of the wider Round Table Family, which includes organisations like Ladies Circle, Tangent, the 41 Club, and Round Table, Agora Club has worked alongside other like-minded partners. Local women’s forum, Proweb, and international initiative Laptops For Hope have joined forces to optimise resources and improve outcomes for the young women at the centre.
To mark this successful two-year partnership, Agora Club Zimbabwe is hosting an appreciation day for all partners and stakeholders who have contributed to this philanthropic journey. The event will take place on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 9 Drayton Road in Mabelreign.
Agora Zimbabwe extends an invitation to individuals and organisations interested in partnering with the Rafiki Girls’ Centre to attend this celebratory event. Attendees will have the opportunity to network, learn more about the centre’s work, and explore ways to further support these young women through employment opportunities, additional funding, or other forms of assistance.
The Rafiki Girls’ Centre equips its trainees with valuable skills in a range of disciplines, including cosmetology, interior design, cutting and designing, hairdressing, nurse aide training, and Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher training. This initiative empowers vulnerable young women with the tools they need to build sustainable futures.
The upcoming appreciation day promises to be both an invaluable networking opportunity and an exciting celebration of the positive impact achieved through collaborative community service, a tradition deeply rooted in Zimbabwe’s history and actively continued by organisations like Agora Club Zimbabwe.
