Air Marshal John Jacob Nzvede New Commander of Air Force of Zimbabwe

Air Marshal John Jacob Nzvede officially assumed command as the new Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe, taking over from Air Marshal Elson Moyo, who has retired.

In his pledge, Air Marshal Nzvede expressed unwavering commitment to ensuring that the Air Force continues its crucial role in fostering a peaceful environment conducive to national development goals.

The transition of command occurred following the conferment of new insignia of rank at Defence Headquarters, signifying Air Marshal Nzvede’s promotion from air vice marshal by President Mnangagwa, with effect from the previous day.

The promotion was made in accordance with the Defence Act, as read with Statutory Instrument 257 of 2020, allowing the President to make such promotions upon the advice of the Minister of Defence, acting on recommendations from the Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces.

At the handover ceremony held at Manyame Air Force Base, Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces General Philip Sibanda emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in fulfilling military objectives. He lauded Air Marshal Moyo for his efforts in advancing the vision and goals set by his predecessors, ensuring the Air Force of Zimbabwe’s stature as a formidable force both within and beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by sanctions imposed on the country, General Sibanda commended Air Marshal Moyo for his proactive approach in overcoming obstacles and pursuing the nation’s development objectives. Under Air Marshal Moyo’s leadership, significant strides were made in research and development, resulting in the recovery and enhancement of several air assets and equipment for the Air Force.

Accepting the mantle of leadership, Air Marshal Nzvede expressed gratitude to President Mnangagwa for the honor bestowed upon him and pledged to lead the Air Force with diligence and dedication. He recognized the weight of responsibility accompanying his appointment and affirmed his readiness to confront the challenges ahead.
