A teller at a money transfer service in Ngundu, Masvingo, was reportedly attacked by four armed robbers while on his way home on Monday. The suspects allegedly forced the teller to return to the outlet and open the safe.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the robbers, armed with pistols, made the teller unlock the safe, from which they stole US$46,349 and ZAR 924,100 in cash.
The police are investigating the robbery, which occurred on November 25, 2024, and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
This incident is part of a concerning trend of rising armed robberies in Zimbabwe, with criminals increasingly targeting cash transactions. The surge in such attacks, particularly involving cash-in-transit vehicles, businesses, and private properties, has raised concerns about public safety. For instance, a recent robbery in Bulawayo saw a gang steal US$4 million from Ecobank, while a family in Cowdray Park was attacked and robbed of over US$25,000 during a home invasion.
