Harare, Zimbabwe | Musician Desmond ‘Stunner’ Chideme has been taken to court for allegedly assaulting his neighbor and a friend of his nine-year-old daughter.
Stunner appeared before the Mbare Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault. The charges involve an incident in which he allegedly attacked Catherine Matiza and a young girl who was playing with his daughter.
Represented by his lawyer, Dumisani Mthombeni, Stunner raised concerns over what he described as biased and unfair treatment by the police.
Mthombeni argued that the police were selective in their handling of the case, failing to record Stunner’s complaint in a timely manner.

“Your Worship, the accused has complaints regarding the police conduct, which was biased and selective in dealing with this case,” Mthombeni said.
“He initially reported the matter on August 25, under RRB 6105134 at Glen Norah Police Station, but they failed to take his statement and instead only arrested him for this case.
The accused is not guilty on both counts and came to court from home.”
The State has stated that it will further investigate the matter. Magistrate Batsirai Zishiri scheduled the trial for September 12.
The incident allegedly occurred on August 25 when Stunner’s daughter was playing with three other children in the Specimen area of Glen Norah. A fight broke out among the children, during which Stunner’s daughter reportedly fell and began to cry.
It is claimed that Stunner attempted to protect his daughter from being attacked but then allegedly assaulted the nine-year-old complainant.
The children were known to play together often, and it is alleged that on this particular day, Stunner was encouraging them to fight. During the altercation, Catherine, the second complainant, tried to intervene and was allegedly attacked by Stunner, sustaining injuries that caused her to bleed.
He reportedly dragged her to his yard to avoid being seen by others.
A report was filed at the Glen Norah Police Station, which led to Stunner’s arrest.
