Bayern Munich’s eleven-year reign comes to an end as Bayer 04 Leverkusen secures a historic Bundesliga victory.
With a decisive 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen on Sunday, Bayer 04 Leverkusen won their first Bundesliga title in an incredible show of dominance, ending Bayern Munich’s ten-year stranglehold over the competition.
Under the direction of the legendary Xabi Alonso, who was a midfield maestro at Real Madrid and Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen made history this season by winning 29 straight games and creating a new league record.
With five games left, Bayer Leverkusen jumped ahead with a dominating 16-point lead over Bayern Munich, marking a turning point in their history and their first major trophy since 1993.

Leverkusen has two more possible trophies within reach, and the season is full of promise. They are through to the German Cup (DFB Pokal) final and lead West Ham United 2-0 in the Europa League quarterfinals.
Leverkusen has shown themselves to be a formidable team this season, going 43 games without a loss in all competitions.
A player for Werder Bremen, who was taken aback by the remarkable feat, was quoted by Al Jazeera as stating, “I cannot convey this… It will take me a short while to realise what we have accomplished.”
When Leverkusen was mired in the relegation zone in October 2022, Alonso took over as coach and said, “Maybe it’s good for the Bundesliga… We must relish this wonderful joy, and this is the perfect time to celebrate.”
The stadium was filled with heavy red smoke from supporters’ pyrotechnics as spectators poured onto the pitch in an ecstatic frenzy. There was a mixture of celebration and bewilderment in the closing moments as Bayer 04 Leverkusen achieved a historic victory.
