Thobekani Mpofu suspected of unlawfully entering several houses in Beitbridge and stealing electrical gadgets, particularly television sets, has been arrested by the police.
Detective Inspector Stanley Muuya, Acting Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Beitbridge, has connected Thobekani Mpofu (30) of the Dulivhadzimu area to eight cases of theft and unlawful entry.
Detective Inspector Muuya reported that Mpofu was taken into custody on Tuesday after receiving a tip. After that, he was taken by police to point out where stolen goods—including a number of television sets—were found. The estimated value of the stolen goods is $16,000, whereas the value of the recovered property is $8,000.
Investigations are still on, and other stolen goods that is thought to have been transported to Mutare is being sought after. Prior to conducting the crimes, Mpofu allegedly surveilled the area, frequently hitting homes while the occupants were either asleep or not at all. Using instruments like a crowbar or bolt cutter—which the police have subsequently confiscated—he broke down doors and gates.

Detective Inspector Muuya warned against buying products from strangers and stressed the significance of always protecting properties to prevent unintentionally obtaining stolen goods and face legal ramifications.
The district’s acting police officer commanding officer, Superintendent Philisani Ndebele, observed that Beitbridge locals were terrified as a result of Mpofu’s conduct. Together with local leaders, anti-crime awareness efforts are being carried out throughout the district in reaction to the recent spike in robberies and unauthorized entry.
