Harare | BEZBETS Betting Company was yesterday arraigned before Harare Magistrates Courts for allegedly refusing to pay a punter US$5,400 he won after placing a bet last month.
The company is being represented by its manager, Robson Chinamasa.
He pleaded not guilty to fraud charges, and his trial is expected to commence on December 8 before Harare magistrate Mr Simon Kandiyero.
Prosecuting, Ms Faith Mavhudzi alleged that on October 26 and on a BEZBETS online platform, the punter and now complainant placed a bet of US$394 on a roulette game, and the platform gave him the potential winning of US$5,400.
The court heard that the complainant won the bet and proceeded to the betting shop to withdraw his winning wager with a sum of US$5 400.
However, Chinamasa and his colleagues allegedly refused to make a payout of US$5 400 and instead offered the punter US$1 800.
Feeling hard done, the complainant approached the Lotteries and Gaming Board for recourse before proceeding to file a report with the police resulting in the matter being referred for prosecution.
