Biden Reaffirms U.S. Commitment to Ukraine’s Defense as Russia Strikes Military Locations

Outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden condemned Russia’s recent strikes on Ukrainian military sites as “outrageous” after Russia targeted locations of Ukraine’s long-range weapons systems. The Russian Defence Ministry announced that these strikes were a direct response to Ukraine’s attacks on Russian soil, particularly deep into Russian territory.

In a statement quoted by the White House, Biden emphasized the critical need for continued support for Ukraine, describing Russia’s actions as a stark reminder of the urgency of the situation. He reiterated that the U.S. would persist in providing military aid to Ukraine, with additional assistance already on the way.

The Biden administration is reportedly preparing a new $725 million military aid package, which is expected to include anti-tank weapons, drones, Stinger missiles, land mines, and ammunition for the HIMARS system. Pentagon spokesperson Pat Ryder confirmed that the U.S. had authorized the use of long-range missiles, including ATACMS, for Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory, particularly the Kursk region.

Russian President Vladimir Putin responded last week, claiming that Ukraine had used ATACMS missiles and UK-supplied Storm Shadows to target areas in Kursk and Bryansk on November 19. Putin also announced the successful test-firing of a new Oreshnik ballistic missile on November 21, which reportedly hit a Ukrainian defense facility in Dnipro.
