A fraudulent medical practitioner caused a stir at Mpilo Central Hospital by prescribing Lacto (sour milk) for a heart condition. Taurai Prosper Vanhuvaone, also known as Prosper Mpofu, 29, appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate on Thursday facing charges of breaching the Health Professions Act and committing two counts of fraud, according to ZimLive.
Vanhuvaone, who lives in the Upper Rangemore suburb of Bulawayo, is also accused of defrauding a nursing student of $1,600 with promises of securing an internship at Mpilo Central Hospital.
Appearing in court without legal representation, he was remanded in custody until Monday for a bail hearing.
Although Vanhuvaone has been posing as a qualified medical doctor for some time, he drew scrutiny after issuing a peculiar prescription that included Lacto and fruits like apples and grapes. This unusual recommendation raised concerns about his legitimacy as a physician.
This isn’t Vanhuvaone’s first legal trouble; he faced assault charges in 2022, claiming at that time to be a fifth-year medical student.
