Wesley Tafara Jena (39), employed as a messenger at a local law firm, found himself in the Harare Magistrates’ Court accused of falsely posing as a lawyer to aid a man in securing bail.
Wesley Tafara Jena was accused of breaking the Legal Practitioner Act as she stood before the magistrate.
As per the narrative put up by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), on April 22, 2024, Jena allegedly misled Dennis Mahachi by falsely claiming that he was a practicing attorney.
Seeking legal assistance for his brother Debate Mahachi, who was requesting bail, Mahachi went to the Harare Magistrates’ Court and approached Jena.

For a fee of US$500, Jena, who was really a messenger at the business, agreed to take on the matter and represented himself as an attorney from Jena and Associates.
Without obtaining a receipt, Mahachi gave Jena US$300 on April 24, 2024. Nevertheless, Jena did not represent Debate Mahachi in court during his bail hearing; instead, she remained seated.
Mahachi began to doubt Jena’s function as a result. Unable to provide proof of his legal qualifications, Jena abandoned Mahachi, leaving him without any way to get his $300.
On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, Jena was supposed to appear in court again for a hearing on her bail application.
