Remanded in detention pending a bail application, two elderly ladies are accused of defrauding land searchers out of about US$66,000.
In Banket, Perpetual Chimuti (57) and Pedzisai Chikari (46), purportedly headed a fictitious task team that collected funds for the benefit of war veterans.
According to reports, the pair used social media to promote themselves, created many social media groups with between 120 and 150 members each, and made demands for money ranging from US$10 to US$1,500 for administration, gasoline, and the welfare of war veterans in Banket.

They went on to say that some of the money was used to prepare offer letters before taking their victims to several farms in the province of Mashonaland West, including Zvimba, Makonde, Rafingora, and Banket.
The scam cost the victims US$66 000, and the two accomplices are allegedly still at large.
