E-hailing service Bolt swiftly suspended a driver from their platform after reports emerged that he allegedly stabbed two female passengers during a dispute in Cape Town.
The incident occurred when the driver was transporting the women in Table View over the weekend, and a disagreement arose regarding their drop-off location. According to Women for Change, a nonprofit organization, the driver purportedly began assaulting one of the passengers seated beside him.
The women managed to escape when the driver stopped the vehicle, but he reportedly chased them on foot and allegedly inflicted stab wounds on two of them. A disturbing image circulated on social media depicting two women on the ground, one with a severe wound on her back.
Bolt acknowledged awareness of the alleged incident and denounced it as “completely unacceptable” on Tuesday. Sandra Buyole, Bolt’s PR manager for Africa, stated that upon learning of the incident, they promptly suspended the driver from the platform and launched a thorough investigation.
