Mt Pleasant Member of Parliament Fadzayi Mahere has emerged as the first member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) to take the significant step of resigning from her parliamentary position in the wake of Nelson Chamisa’s departure from the party.
In a move that caught many by surprise, Mahere formally submitted her resignation letter to Parliament Speaker Jacob Mudenda on Monday, marking the beginning of a process that will lead to her seat being declared vacant and necessitate a by-election to fill the vacancy.

Mahere’s decision underscores the deep divisions and uncertainties within the CCC following Chamisa’s departure, with the party now grappling with the fallout and contemplating its next move.
The resignation comes as a blow to the CCC, as Mahere has been a prominent figure within the party, known for her outspokenness and advocacy for democratic reform.
In response to Mahere’s resignation, the remaining CCC Members of Parliament are set to convene for a caucus on Tuesday to discuss their collective stance and chart a course forward. Promise Mkwananzi, a spokesperson for the party, confirmed that a formal statement outlining their position will be issued following the caucus meeting.
