Two brothers from Mutare, Nathan and Nolan Manyuchi, were part of a group of four robbers accused of attacking a local borehole driller, Brighton Pararai, in a violent robbery. The incident, which took place on November 14, involved the robbers stealing US$7,300 and an iPhone 14 Pro Max from the victim.
The group, consisting of Tatenda Tome (31), Nathan Manyuchi (40), Nolan Manyuchi (38), and Tinashe Mugari (26), appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate Mr. Tendai Mahwe and were granted bail of US$200 each. They are facing charges of robbery as per Section 126 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
According to public prosecutor Ms. Sandra Mlambo, the crime occurred around 7 p.m. when the victim was traveling in a Toyota Fortuner with a driver, Mr. Charles Zvoma. The robbers ambushed the vehicle at TM Chikanga, parking a white Toyota Dyna in front and a black Honda Fit behind the Fortuner. They then forced Pararai, who was seated in the front passenger seat, out of the vehicle, assaulted him, and stole the cash and cellphone.
The robbers attempted to force Pararai into the boot of the Honda Fit, but he resisted and left behind a tennis shoe in the process. They then forced him into the Toyota Fortuner and drove towards Mutare city center. The victim managed to escape when the car stopped, and he reported the robbery to the police.
Following investigations, the police arrested the suspects and recovered the stolen Toyota Dyna, Honda Fit, the tennis shoe, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. While the total value of the stolen items amounted to US$8,400, US$1,100 was recovered.
