Lusaka businessman Isaac Nkhata, 44, vanished from a courtroom shortly after being sentenced to five years in prison for the illegal possession of a pangolin.
The incident occurred last Monday, right after Lusaka magistrate Mutinta Mwenya announced the verdict against Nkhata and his two co-accused.
Nkhata, a resident of Kamwala South, was found guilty of unlawfully possessing protected wildlife. Following his sentencing, he allegedly exited the courtroom through a door near the dock, which leads to various areas within the court building, including the magistrate’s chambers, other courtrooms, restrooms, and a tunnel to a holding cell.

A source involved in the case suggested that Nkhata’s abrupt disappearance might have initially gone unnoticed, as court officials could have assumed he had stepped out to use the bathroom. Despite ongoing searches, Nkhata has not been found, raising concerns about security measures in the courthouse.
Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding his escape. Isaac Nkhata
