During Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex trafficking trial in New York, his former girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie, delivered powerful testimony detailing years of alleged abuse and sexual exploitation at his hands. Visibly emotional, Cassie, whose legal name is Casandra Ventura, told the jury about being coerced into participating in what Combs called “freak offs” – extended sexual encounters involving male sex workers.
Cassie recounted feeling trapped and obligated by Combs’ demands, stating, “He would mash me in the head, knock me over, drag me, kick me. Stomp me in the head if I was down,” leaving her bruised and bloodied. She expressed that refusing Combs felt impossible due to fear of physical harm and the threat of him leaking videos of these “freak offs” online.
Cassie explained that Combs first introduced the concept of “freak offs” when she was barely 22. These weren’t brief encounters; she described them as “elaborate sexual marathons” that could last anywhere from 36 hours to an astonishing four days, stemming from what she understood to be Combs’ voyeuristic interests.
Describing the mechanics of these events, Cassie said, “[‘Freak offs’ involved] hiring a sex worker and setting up this experience so that I could perform for Sean” while he watched. She recalled her first experience in Combs’ Los Angeles home with a male stripper from Las Vegas, leaving her feeling “dirty and confused” but also relieved that Combs was satisfied.
Over time, the “freak offs” became a recurring demand. “I just didn’t want to make him upset,” Cassie testified, explaining her compliance. “I just didn’t want to make him angry and regret telling me about this experience that was so personal.”
Becoming visibly tearful, Cassie responded to a question about whether she enjoyed any aspect of these encounters by saying that “time spent with him” was the only positive element she could identify. However, she soon revealed that these “freak offs” escalated to a weekly occurrence, continuing for approximately a decade, finally ending around 2017 or 2018.
Cassie described the toll these events took on her, stating that “‘Freak offs’ became a job where there was no space to do anything else but to recover and just try to feel normal again.” She detailed the recovery process after each encounter, which involved recuperating from “lack of sleep, alcohol, drugs ‘and other substances,’ and having sex with a stranger for days.”
The prosecution also presented still images from the 2016 security footage showing Combs assaulting Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel. Cassie connected this incident to a “freak off,” testifying, “We were having an encounter called a ‘freak off’ and I was leaving there” prior to the altercation.
Further detailing the humiliating nature of these encounters, Cassie described one instance involving a “blow-up pool of baby oil and lubricants” placed in a hotel room, where she was instructed to get inside. Reflecting on these experiences, she said, “It was such a mess. It was like, ‘What are we doing?'” Cassie’s testimony paints a stark picture of alleged coercion and exploitation within her relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs.
