Nigeria recently celebrated the arrival of Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina, who made history by becoming the first runner-up at the Miss Universe pageant, a significant milestone for a Nigerian contestant.
Upon her return to Lagos, Chidimma received an enthusiastic reception at the Silverbird Galleria, where fans eagerly gathered to meet her and take photographs. The homecoming event was filled with excitement, featuring vibrant balloons, a beautiful welcome backdrop, and traditional dancers to honor her achievement.
In her remarks after the event, Chidimma expressed her profound gratitude, acknowledging the support from Nigeria and the African continent. She reflected on her journey, saying: “I came, I saw, and I shook the universe. Returning home as Miss Universe First Runner-Up and Miss Universe Africa & Oceania. I’m filled with immense gratitude for Nigeria and Africa for believing in me and helping me reclaim my dreams.”
Despite her triumph, her success was met with mixed reactions, particularly on social media, with some South African users referencing her previous identity theft case. However, many of her supporters rallied to her side, expressing disbelief at the harsh criticism she faced.
As Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, Chidimma was awarded several prizes, including a cash reward of $100,000, a one-year lease for an apartment in New York, and a dazzling $3 million diamond crown.
