Yu Tue, a 33-year-old Chinese national, has admitted to stealing $72,000 from his employer, Osaka (Private) Limited, and then spending the money at a casino in Harare. He is currently awaiting sentencing. Earlier this week in court, Yu acknowledged the theft.
Yu asked for forgiveness during mitigation, stressing his position as a family carer for his ageing parents and pledging to reimburse the embezzled money when the time came.
Prosecutor Mrs. Kudzai Mudzamiri, on the other hand, argued in favour of a jail sentence, claiming that Yu’s actions were motivated by selfish interests.
The case, which was tried by Harare magistrate Mrs. Appolonia Marutya, centres on Yu’s role as a sales representative for the company, where he is in charge of selling tyres. An audit carried out in April 2024 found a substantial deficit of US$72,000, which Yu neglected to report even after being requested to do so.

After learning that Yu had lost the whole amount in a capital casino, Osaka (Private) Limited, the complainant, filed a lawsuit.
