A shocking incident has rocked the town of Chipinge, Zimbabwe, after a new mother Cynthia Masocha discovered that her baby boy had been swapped for a girl overnight at Chipinge District Hospital.
On September 21, Ms. Masocha gave birth to a baby boy with the help of nurse Blessing Mutimbu. After confirming her son’s gender and breastfeeding him, Ms. Masocha settled in for the night. However, to her astonishment, she found a baby girl in her care the following morning.
This incident has sparked outrage among residents, who are demanding a comprehensive investigation and accountability for those responsible for the suspected baby exchange.
Official birth records confirm that Ms. Masocha delivered a male child, raising serious concerns about potential misconduct. Dr. Ozmore Matekenya, the Chipinge District Medical Officer, has pledged to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter.

The alarming event has highlighted issues related to patient safety, medical ethics, and the possibility of criminal activity within the hospital.
According to reports, Ms. Masocha delivered a baby boy at around 8 PM on September 21. Nurse Mutimbu confirmed the baby’s sex in front of Ms. Masocha as part of hospital protocol, and the baby was recorded as a boy in the hospital’s records. Filled with joy, Ms. Masocha informed her husband, Mr. Tavonga Masi, about the birth.
Later, when Mr. Masi visited the maternity ward, he left shortly after without checking the baby’s sex. The next morning, Ms. Masocha discovered that her baby was now a girl. In disbelief, she checked the hospital records, which confirmed that the baby had been documented as a boy.
