Wicknell Chivayo expressed his deep emotions after watching a video from Simon “Pashoma” Ncube, a former ZBC radio DJ, in which Ncube sought assistance due to his difficult circumstances.

On November 1, Ncube posted a heartfelt video on Facebook, calling out to Chivayo for help. In the video, he detailed his struggles, which included his health challenges and the absence of a pension despite his long service at ZBC.

Moved by Ncube’s plea, Chivayo shared that he was saddened to see the former radio icon in such a dire state. He reminisced about Ncube’s prominence in the past, recalling that he was a household name when he worked at Radio 2 (now Radio Zimbabwe), and how painful it was to see him in distress without the pension he deserved.

In his response, Chivayo wrote:
“Seeing you on crutches and in such a tough situation was heart-wrenching. It’s hard to witness someone who contributed so much to Zimbabwean radio struggling like this.”

Chivayo then announced that he would be helping Ncube with a one-time donation of USD 20,000 in cash and a single-cab truck worth up to USD 15,000. He explained that the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe had made it difficult for Ncube to receive his pension, and he wanted to do his part to assist.

Chivayo went on to say:
“Your situation truly moved me, and I feel compelled to help. I know that you have farming potential, and I hope these resources will help you make the most of the land you have.”

Chivayo instructed Ncube to visit his lawyer in Harare, who would provide the financial support, and also arranged for a truck to assist him with farming and mobility. He advised Ncube to use the funds wisely, suggesting they be spent on farming tools, fertilizers, and seeds to improve his livelihood.

Though unable to meet Ncube in person due to a business trip in Paris, Chivayo expressed hope that Ncube would use the support to transform his farm and improve his living conditions.
