Two women from Jambesi, Hwange, are recovering at Victoria Falls Hospital after being attacked by a crocodile while fishing illegally at Matetsi River.
Fanuel Mudimba, the councillor for Jambesi Ward 7, informed VicFallsLive that the women were engaged in illegal fishing activities when the incident occurred. One woman sustained serious injuries to her left arm, while the other was injured in her fingers and arm while attempting to help her companion.
Initially, the women were willing to speak to VicFallsLive but later withdrew, claiming they no longer needed medical or food assistance, stating they had been “sorted.” However, their relatives later revealed that the women were in critical need of injections and food, both at the hospital and at home.
It was also revealed that after interviews and the collection of records, the women had lost trust in the organizations and individuals who had promised them aid, and they reportedly disappeared shortly after their admission to the hospital nearly two weeks ago.
