Harare, Zimbabwe | The death toll from a tragic accident on the Harare-Bulawayo Road, near the Dzivarasekwa turn-off, has risen to eight following a collision on Wednesday morning.
Police have identified seven victims—four women and three men—while the eighth victim, a male adult, remains unidentified.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi provided details of the incident, stating, “The fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Bulawayo Road and Dzivarasekwa Road on March 19 around 5:30 a.m. It involved a Toyota Hiace kombi, a haulage truck, and a Nissan UD truck. The death toll has now reached eight.”

The identified victims are Zedi Chikomo, Mary Round, Nyarai Meki, and Sophia Machamba, all women, along with Enock Chanengeta, Blessing Banda, and Takudzwa Musekiwa, all men, from Dzivarasekwa 3 in Harare.
Commissioner Nyathi confirmed that the unidentified male victim’s body is currently at Sally Mugabe mortuary awaiting a post-mortem. Additionally, 11 other individuals injured in the crash are receiving treatment at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
The police spokesperson urged all drivers to exercise caution on the roads, comply with traffic regulations, and prioritize safety to protect lives. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
