Private investigator Tafadzwa Chidawa, also known as “Detective Kedha,” is charged with planning the abduction of a woman who was subsequently left at the Harare Central Police Station. At her boyfriend’s request, an investigation into the woman led to Chidawa’s arrest.
Court documents state that on March 5, Tafadzwa Chidawa and five accomplices called Sallom Gandiya, the victim, pretending to be her boyfriend’s cousin.
Chidawa set up a meeting with Gandiya at the Caledon Shops on Seke Road on false pretences. After hiring a cab from Watson Gatsi, Gandiya was met by Chidawa and his cronies at Caledon Shops. They pretended to be police detectives from the Harare Central Police Station.
Chidawa and his group allegedly claimed that Gandiya had lied to her partner about being pregnant, forcing her into a car and handcuffing her with force.

After that, they drove Gandiya and Gatsi to Mutare Road, where Gandiya was able to alert a friend about the kidnapping by placing a distress call.
The group then made their way back to Harare, dropping Gandiya and Gatsi off at the Central Police Station.
Chidawa was taken into custody when Gandiya and Gatsi reported the event to the police after their trauma. Rufaro Chonzi, the prosecution’s attorney, argued against granting bail, pointing to Chidawa’s prior attempt to elude capture by the police.
Today is the planned date for additional proceedings in this case. Magistrate Dennis Mangosi is anticipated to render a decision regarding the bail application.
