HARARE — Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, was issued an arrest warrant on Monday after failing to appear at the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court to face charges of disorderly conduct and possession of prohibited knives.
Mugabe, who was expected in court, defaulted, leading the magistrate to issue the warrant. The charges stem from an incident on August 31, 2024, at the Bubi Security Roadblock in Beitbridge, where Mugabe allegedly verbally attacked a police officer and was found in possession of a knife.
According to court documents, the first count of disorderly conduct involves Mugabe’s reaction when his vehicle, driven by a South African national, was stopped for a routine check.

When police requested the driver’s passport and vehicle registration, Mugabe reportedly intervened, handing over his own passport and growing agitated when asked to move the vehicle further off the road.
“What are you doing, you are delaying me for the fourth time. I am rushing to a wedding in Harare, check my passport. Don’t you know who I am?” Mugabe allegedly shouted at the officer, according to the prosecution.
The second charge, possession of prohibited knives, was brought after a brown knife reportedly fell from Mugabe’s jacket during the confrontation. Police recovered the weapon and arrested him on the spot.
