Econet Blackout Hit Once More!

Harare, Zimbabwe | Just a day after Econet Wireless Zimbabwe assured customers that it had resolved network issues, the telecom giant has once again suffered a major blackout, leaving subscribers unable to make calls, use mobile data, or transact via EcoCash.

On February 5, 2025, Econet had announced that services had been restored after an outage that lasted 90 minutes between 2 PM and 3:30 PM. The company issued a statement apologizing for the disruption, saying:

“We experienced some issues on the platforms that enable our subscribers to make calls, use data, or carry out EcoCash transactions, resulting in some of our customers being unable to use the services for about an hour and a half.

We are pleased to advise that the challenges have since been successfully resolved, and all services have been fully restored.”

However, just 24 hours later, customers are once again experiencing a total blackout, with voice calls, mobile data, SMS, USSD, and EcoCash services all down.

For Econet, these outages mean significant revenue losses, while businesses and individuals who rely on the network are also suffering major disruptions. Many customers have taken to social media to express frustration over the repeated service failures.

Econet has yet to issue a statement on the latest outage, leaving millions wondering when full services will be restored.
