Harare, Zimbabwe – Anticipation is mounting ahead of the 65th edition of the Castle Tankard, Zimbabwe’s premier horse racing event, which will light up Borrowdale Park on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
This year’s race, themed “The Legacy Continues,” brings together 16 of the region’s top racehorses in what is expected to be an electrifying showdown. The event remains a symbol of prestige in the local racing calendar, underpinned by the strong collaboration between Mashonaland Turf Club and Delta Beverages.
With a US$50,000 prize purse on the line and a full day of racing and festivities on offer, the Castle Tankard is once again poised to capture national attention.
Scott Bucchan, representing Mashonaland Turf Club, emphasized the race’s lasting importance:
“This event continues to define Zimbabwean horse racing. We’re deeply appreciative of Delta Beverages’ consistent support in making this iconic race a reality.”
Kundayi Mawema, Delta Beverages’ Marketing Manager for Lagers, echoed the sentiment, describing the company’s involvement as a heartfelt partnership:
“This isn’t just sponsorship — it’s a commitment to the very soul of local racing. Last year’s edition was electric, and this year promises to be even more thrilling. The only question now is — who will take the crown?”
But the Castle Tankard offers far more than galloping hooves and photo finishes. From 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Borrowdale Park transforms into a celebration of Zimbabwean culture and entertainment. Attendees can look forward to live music, mouthwatering braais, and ice-cold Castle Lager sold at pump price.
This year’s entertainment lineup is stacked with fan favorites. Taking the stage will be sungura legend Alick Macheso, alongside Zimdancehall stars Enzo Ishall, Delroy Shewe, Nisha Ts, Oriyano, and the high-energy Chillspot Family.
With world-class racing, a vibrant festival vibe, and big prize money up for grabs, Castle Tankard 2025 is shaping up to be an unforgettable experience for fans and participants alike.
