A dramatic scene unfolded in court yesterday when Tofara Mumango, the daughter of Forward Mumango, broke down in tears and attempted to attack her father after he won a court order to evict his entire family from their home to make room for his lover.
The legal battle arose after Forward Mumango sought an order to remove his wife, Primrose, and their children from the family home. Mumango argued that he was facing abuse from his wife and that his family was opposed to him bringing his lover into the household.
The Harare Civil Court, under Magistrate Meenal Narotam, granted the protection order, which set off emotional turmoil in the courtroom. Tofara, visibly distressed, accused her father of selfishness and cruelty, shouting, “How could he do this to my mum? He’s only doing this because of his girlfriend, and he doesn’t care about us. He’s punishing us for not accepting her.”
Court officials had to intervene as Tofara, struggling with her emotions, tried to confront her father.
Forward Mumango defended his decision, claiming that his wife, Primrose, was abusive and refused to accept his second wife. He stated, “They are making it impossible for me to live peacefully with my new wife. I want them out of my house because they won’t accept my decisions as the head of the family.”
Primrose, on the other hand, expressed feelings of betrayal, stating, “He is no longer thinking clearly, and has been manipulated by his girlfriend. I am heartbroken by his decision to seek a protection order against me and to evict our children.”
