Masvingo’s Eastern Region Soccer League leaders, FC Wangu Mazodze, have made headlines by appointing 8-year-old Richardell Mazodze as their Assistant Team Manager.
The announcement, made on September 27, highlights the club’s commitment to engaging the community and fostering young talent. The club, affectionately known as Zhalala Zhululu, expressed their excitement about Richardell’s new role, emphasizing his special status within the organization.
Coach John Nyikadzino recently shared his optimism about the team’s potential for promotion to the Premiership, noting the hope this project brings to Masvingo. He stated that home games attract large crowds, showcasing community support.

FC Wangu Mazodze is backed by the Richard Wangu Mazodze Family Trust, which recently ended its sponsorship of another club due to compliance issues. The Trust’s namesake, a businessman based in the United States, has expressed interest in running for the ZIFA presidency in future elections.
He highlighted the need for a new leadership approach in Zimbabwean football and sees his candidacy as an opportunity to give back to his homeland. He believes in the potential for change and improved results within ZIFA, which he regards as a prominent football institution in Zimbabwe.
