Football Legend Moses Chunga Speaks Out on Car Gift Controversy

Football icon Moses “Bambo” Chunga has addressed critics who questioned his decision to accept a car gift from businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who has been a controversial figure with ties to the ruling ZANU PF party.

Chunga, along with other prominent public figures like Leonard Karigoka Zhakata and Mai Charamba, has faced backlash for accepting the vehicles from Chivayo, whose reputation has raised eyebrows.

At Faramatsi Motors, where he was collecting his new Toyota Fortuner, Chunga, who had just returned from Belgium, dismissed the criticism. He expressed his belief that supporting ZANU PF is not a “sin” and emphasized his pride in his country, stating that he was grateful for the gift.

Chivayo, whose wealth remains a subject of speculation, announced that he would be gifting cars to Chunga and veteran ZBC presenter Charles “CNN” Mabika to recognize their contributions to football and their influence on millions of Zimbabweans.

Earlier, Chivayo had also given cars to Charamba, Zhakata, and Mechanic Manyeruke, celebrating their roles in the country’s music and culture. In a social media tribute to Chunga, Chivayo highlighted his football legacy, noting Chunga’s historic debut in Belgium and his impact on Zimbabwean football, particularly at Dynamos FC.
