Harare, Zimbabwe | Geo Pomona Waste Management continues to make tangible strides in modernising the capital’s sanitation and waste-handling systems.
This follows the arrival of new refuse-collection equipment that significantly expands the company’s operational capacity and accelerates Harare’s return to its once-celebrated “Sunshine City” status.
Geo Pomona in a statement announced that its refuse collection equipment has officially arrived in Zimbabwe, noting that this milestone strengthens its commitment to delivering efficient, reliable, and modern waste management for the City of Harare, and reaffirming its determination to restore the city’s proud legacy.
“Our refuse collection equipment has officially arrived in Zimbabwe, and we’re excited to expand our fleet.
“This milestone strengthens our commitment to delivering efficient, reliable, and modern waste management for the City of Harare.
“We are firmly on the road to restoring its proud Sunshine City status,” read parts of Geo Pomona’s statement.
The upgraded fleet, comprising 25 compactors, 16 tipper trucks, 10 skip trucks, and 5 mechanical sweepers, is expected to drastically improve waste collection frequency and reduce turnaround times.
It will also support intensified clean-up efforts across residential, commercial, and industrial areas.
This expansion aligns with regional and global trends toward smart-city sanitation practices, more sustainable operational planning, and the adoption of modern fleet-based waste management systems.
In October, a City of Harare delegation led by acting town clerk Engineer Phakamile Mabhena Moyo visited the Geo Pomona facility to assess performance and progress.

Following the tour, Eng. Moyo expressed strong satisfaction with the firm’s achievements in transforming the former dumpsite, remarking that the encapsulation efforts have significantly reduced the nuisance and environmental hazards previously associated with the landfill.
His remarks echoed growing public and administrative confidence in the Pomona project’s direction and execution.
Beyond waste collection and landfill rehabilitation, Geo Pomona’s future vision includes the establishment of a waste-to-energy facility expected to generate up to 22 megawatts of electricity.
Once operational, this clean-energy initiative will contribute to Zimbabwe’s national grid and convert waste into a valuable energy resource — affirming a shift toward a circular urban economy where waste is progressively redefined as a resource instead of a burden.
Altogether, the fleet expansion, improvements in landfill management, and forward-looking energy plans reflect a decisive move toward a cleaner, healthier, and more modern city.
With renewed investment, improved technical capacity, and a strengthened partnership with city authorities, Harare is on the right path to reclaiming its urban vitality and environmental pride.
