A fuel vendor fell victim to a brutal assault and murder carried out by a seven-member gang in Karoi.
The body of George Takaruva, the dealer, was found soaked in oil and abandoned at his residence’s gate. Acting provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Aggary Jaure, disclosed that Takaruva, aged 49 and residing in Chiedza, Karoi, was known for his fuel trading activities, procuring fuel from cross-border trucks along the Harare-Chirundu highway.
On May 4, around 5 pm, a Toyota Fun Cargo arrived at Takaruva’s home with seven occupants. Taruvinga’s wife, Simangaliso Tshuma, was summoned to provide clean clothes for her husband, who was reportedly inside the vehicle.
Upon inquiry, she was informed that her husband was accused of diesel theft in the Lakeview low-density suburb of Karoi.
Despite attempts to take him to the hospital, Takaruva succumbed to his injuries around 9 pm.
The assailants remain at large, leaving behind a community in shock and mourning.
