Harare Halts Water Supply to Mufakose, Glenview, and Budiriro After Theft of Critical Pipe Straps

The City of Harare has suspended water supplies to the western suburbs of Mufakose, Glenview, and Budiriro following the theft and vandalism of critical water infrastructure.

Thieves reportedly stole straps securing major pipes between Morton Jaffray Waterworks and the Marimba reservoirs, causing treated water to leak out.

The council has halted water pumping to these suburbs until the necessary repairs are completed. This interruption leaves residents without access to clean water, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid.

In the absence of safe water sources, residents may resort to unsafe alternatives like rivers and wells, further elevating health risks. Schools in the affected areas may also face challenges in maintaining proper hygiene standards, potentially leading to closures or reduced attendance.

The City of Harare has assured residents that regular updates will be provided as the situation develops and has expressed sincere regret for any inconvenience caused.
