The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a fatal road accident that occurred on October 11, 2024, around 7 PM, at the 88-kilometre mark along the Harare-Shamva Road.
According to a statement released by ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the incident claimed nine lives and left eight people injured. The accident involved a Toyota Sienta carrying 13 passengers heading towards Shamva.
The vehicle reportedly struck a cow and swerved into the path of an oncoming Toyota Land Cruiser with three passengers traveling towards Harare, resulting in a head-on collision.
Commissioner Nyathi provided further details, saying:
“Eight passengers died instantly, while another succumbed to injuries after being admitted to Shamva Hospital.”
The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, Bindura Hospital, and Shamva Hospital.
The police urged motorists to remain vigilant and prioritize safety when traveling on the country’s roads to avoid further tragedies.
In relating news, A traffic accident occurred this morning at the Kuwadzana Extension turn-off along Bulawayo Road, causing a brief disruption for motorists.
The collision involved two vehicles, but fortunately, witnesses at the scene confirmed that no one sustained serious injuries. Emergency services arrived promptly to assess the situation, ensuring that those involved were safe and unharmed.
The accident caused slight traffic delays as vehicles maneuvered around the scene, but normal traffic flow resumed shortly after the road was cleared.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially at busy intersections and turn-offs, to prevent similar incidents. Further investigations into the cause of the accident are expected.
