The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has imposed a US$6,000 fine on both Highlanders and Simba Bhora for their fans’ violent behavior during an abandoned Chibuku Super Cup match at Wadzanayi Stadium on September 22, 2024.
The match was halted midway through the second half after fans clashed, resulting in injuries and police intervention.
After play resumed with the score at 0-0, a penalty was awarded to Simba Bhora, which Highlanders contested. Their goalkeeper, Ariel Sibanda, refused to take his position for the penalty, leading to the match’s abandonment.

The PSL cited Order 8.9 of the Chibuku Super Cup Rules and Regulations, which holds clubs responsible for controlling their supporters. In their announcement, the PSL emphasized clubs’ obligations to ensure fan safety.
Highlanders face additional penalties for their players’ actions that led to the match’s early termination. They have been summoned to appear before the PSL Ad Hoc Committee and could face a minimum fine of US$6,000, along with the match potentially being awarded to Simba Bhora with a 3-0 scoreline.
Both coaches expressed frustration over the situation, highlighting the negative impact on local football and sponsors. The match was also broadcast live, drawing attention from notable figures, including Warriors coach Michael Nees.
