Violet Svoba and her two children have been left without shelter, braving harsh weather after being evicted from their home in Eiffel Flats, Kadoma. Violet accuses her husband, Odson Machona, of orchestrating the eviction to accommodate his new wife, Melody Mugabe.
Currently residing on the streets at 25B Tendere Street, Violet says the eviction occurred last week under the orders of the Messenger of Court. She claims that her husband used legal processes to remove her and their children from the house.
“I have been married to Odson Machona since 2009, and we have two children together. I became his second wife after his first wife passed away, and we lived together in Rimuka,” she explained.
According to Violet, ongoing disputes with her husband’s relatives prompted her to suggest purchasing a separate home. In 2019, they acquired a house in Eiffel Flats, but conflicts within the family continued. She alleges that her husband began pressuring her to leave the property.
“Last year, he brought Melody, his new wife, to our home along with some of his relatives. He said he wanted to introduce her to the property. That day, he assaulted me in front of them. I reported the incident to the police, but no action has been taken,” she said.
The eviction, which took place on January 3, left Violet and her children exposed to the elements during the rainy season. “They even dismantled the roof and removed the doors from the house. Now, they are trying to sell the property,” she claimed.
This is not the first time Violet says she has been abandoned by her husband. “In 2021, he left to live with another woman in Gweru but returned in 2022. Now, he has done the same with Melody,” she added.
Violet argues that the Eiffel Flats property, purchased during their marriage, is being unfairly taken from her. She also pointed out that their previous home in Rimuka was originally tied to her husband’s first wife.
Attempts to get a response from Odson Machona were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages.
