The Independence Torch’s official send-off ceremony is set for today at the Museum of Human Sciences in Harare. This will signal the beginning of the torch’s trip to Manicaland Province in advance of April 18, the 44th anniversary of Independence Day.
The torch will set off on its voyage after the send-off ceremony, stopping in Headlands and Rusape en route to Magamba or the Butcher Site in Manicaland. It is there on Friday that Vice President Dr. Constantino Chiwenga will formally over the baton to the provincial leadership.

The torch relay team will leave the Museum of Human Sciences at 9:00 a.m. today, according to a statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage. Headlands and Rusape are the next planned locations for the team.
The torch transfer will officially take place at Magamba or Butcher Site on April 12. On April 13, the relay team will go to Nyanga, making stops at Mutasa-Matumba Six and Nyanga District Heroes Acre.
On April 14, the torch relay will continue its journey and arrive in Mutare, stopping along the way at the Machongwe, Chimanimani District Heroes Acre, and Wengezi Business Centre.
